Organizing for Ohio Coordinated Campaign Launches Voter Assistance Hotline

Ohioans Can Call 844-OHI-VOTE For Voting-Related Questions

Columbus, OH – Today, the Organizing for Ohio Coordinated Campaign launched their Voter Assistance Hotline to answer questions Ohioans have about voting and new voter ID laws, help Ohioans register to vote and request an absentee ballot, and respond to concerns at local polling places. The hotline will be available for Ohioans 24 hours a day.

Ohioans can reach the Organizing for Ohio Voter Assistance Hotline by calling 844-644-8683 (844-OHI-VOTE).

“The Organizing for Ohio Coordinated Campaign is fighting to make sure the voices of all Ohioans are heard on Election Day,” said Organizing for Ohio Coordinated Director Mariah Gould. “We already have an unprecedented grassroots operation on the ground engaging with voters in communities across Ohio, and the voter assistance hotline is a critical tool to make sure Ohioans have the support they need before casting their vote this fall.”

The Organizing for Ohio campaign is organizing earlier than ever and ready to support Ohioans through each step of the voting process with 99 days until Election Day, 70 days until the voter registration deadline, and 71 days till Ohio’s early voting begins.

Less Than 100 Days Out From Election Day, Here’s What You Need To Know About Bernie Moreno

Columbus, OH – With less than 100 days until the #OHSEN general election, Bernie Moreno continues to show Ohioans that he’s “a liar looking out for himself” – whether it’s the “dubious claims” “dogg[ing]” him on the campaign trail, his record of “stiffing workers” and “shredding evidence” to get out of paying his employees, or his support for a national abortion ban that would overturn the will of Ohioans who voted to protect abortion rights last year.

Less Than 100 Days Out From Election Day, Here’s What You Need To Know About Bernie Moreno:

1. Moreno is facing scrutiny for the “dubious claims” and “string of inconsistencies that have dogged his campaign” as lie after lie is exposed. Moreno has shown Ohioans he can’t be trusted and has been caught lying about selling the Chinese-made Buick Envision which contributed to “Ohio jobs being shipped overseas,” lying about his phony “rags-to-riches” story as the “signature pitch” of his campaign, lying about shutting down Cleveland State’s Confucius Institute, lying about “escap[ing]” socialism, lying about bringing 5G to Cleveland, and lying about his business origin story.

2. Moreno’s campaign has been clouded by lawsuits that “could prove to be a liability,” including over a dozen lawsuits where Moreno refused to pay his workers the overtime they earned, then deliberately destroyed evidence he was legally required to keep to get out of it. Moreno was found liable for wage theft by a jury – forcing Moreno to pay over $400,000 in damages to his employees and settle over a dozen similar wage theft cases. After he got caught, Moreno repeatedly lied about the case and multiple fact-checks found his excuses “false.”

3. Moreno would vote for a national abortion ban that would overturn the will of Ohioans. Moreno has said he is “100% pro-life without exceptions,” called the overturning of Roe v. Wade a “monumental victory,” and opposes protecting a woman’s right to access contraception, including birth control pills. Moreno is endorsed by SBA Pro-Life America, an organization that pledged to only back candidates who support a national abortion ban.

4. Moreno opposed the bipartisan bill to secure the border and won’t work across the aisle for Ohioans.  Moreno opposed the bipartisan border security bill – which was backed by border patrol agents – and said he “would have opposed” the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act.

5. Moreno won’t work for Ohio. When asked how he would work across the aisle, Moreno said he “reject[ed]” the question. In response, Moreno was slammed for having “no real interest” in advocating for Ohioans and being “intent on adding to [the] problem” in Washington.

One Week Later: JD Vance Still Hasn’t Denounced Call for “Civil War”

Columbus, OH-  It’s been one week since Ohio Republican George Lang threatened a “civil war” should Trump lose the 2024 election while introducing Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance at a rally in Middletown.

While Lang eventually “apologized” for his comments following widespread backlash, Ohioans still haven’t heard from their Senator about these divisive comments at a rally in his honor.

So today we’re asking JD Vance. Why haven’t you denounced Lang’s incendiary remarks?

Is it because you’ll fight to overturn the results of an election that doesn’t work in your favor?  Or are you just afraid to anger the base that you spent most of your time in the Senate playing to?

This dangerous rhetoric is nothing new for Vance. Here’s more of his divisive remarks over his time in politics.

He claimed that he wouldn’t have certified the results of the 2020 election until states submitted slates of pro-Trump electors and suggested that Trump should ignore “illegitimate” Supreme Court rulings.

Vance suggested that people in violent marriages shouldn’t get divorced, and should be willing to stay in unhappy marriages for the sake of their children.

He blamed the country’s problems on the “childless left,” and doubled down by referring to Democratic women as “childless cat ladies with no direct stake in America.

“JD Vance owes Ohioans and the nation an explanation for his refusal to denounce George Lang’s threat of a Civil War if Donald Trump loses,” said Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer. “This divisive rhetoric is consistent with Vance’s claim that he wouldn’t have certified the results of the 2020 election, that women should stay in violent marriages and that ‘childless cat ladies’ are to blame for problems in our country.”

ASSOCIATED PRESS: Bernie Moreno Isn’t The “Political Outsider” He Claims To Be

Associated Press: Senate Candidate Bernie Moreno Campaigns As An Outsider. His Wealthy Family Is Politically Connected

Columbus, OH – New reporting from the Associated Press finds that despite campaigning as a “political outsider and immigrant whose family built its way out of rudimentary beginnings,” Bernie Moreno has “deep political connections,” with close family members “recycl[ing] through senior government jobs,” along with enormous wealth that “goes back generations.” Moreno continues to face scrutiny for “gross[ly] exaggerat[ing]” his “riches-to-rags-to-riches” origin story which he has made the “signature pitch” of his campaign.

Associated Press: Senate candidate Bernie Moreno campaigns as an outsider. His wealthy family is politically connected
Julie Carr Smyth and Joshua Goodman
July 28, 2024

  • Bernie Moreno was ready with a quip when a radio host in his native Colombia asked why he would want to trade his successful professional and personal life in Ohio for the toils of the U.S. Senate.
  • “Remember that my brother, Luis Alberto, just got out of politics — and there always needs to be a Moreno in politics,” he replied in Spanish during the 2021 interview. “Otherwise, what happens in the world, right?”
  • The lighthearted response from Moreno, the Republican nominee for Senate in Ohio, hints at his family’s deep political connections in both the United States and Colombia. Those ties, combined with his family’s considerable wealth in their home country, are the backdrop to Moreno’s journey…
  • “He comes from one of Colombia’s well-off families, whose wealth goes back generations and whose members recycle through senior government jobs,” said Philip Chicola, a retired U.S. diplomat who once worked closely with Moreno’s older brother.
  • Moreno has pitched himself as a political outsider and immigrant whose family built its way out of rudimentary beginnings in the U.S. thanks to the American dream.
  • Moreno built his fortune as a luxury car dealer and blockchain entrepreneur. If elected, he would be among the top eight wealthiest senators, based on the most recent data from the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, with an estimated net worth between $25.5 million and $105.7 million.
  • [Chicola] called Bernie Moreno’s immigrant origin tale a “gross exaggeration.”
  • Many of Luis Alberto Moreno’s connections in business stem from his time as president of the Washington-based Inter-American Development Bank [IDB]…
  • Another brother, Roberto Moreno, is co-founder and president of Amarilo Construction, one of Colombia’s largest builders of affordable housing… corporate records show at least some of IDB’s funding going to banks that worked with Amarilo, and Bernie Moreno’s financial disclosures indicate he is heavily invested in a U.S. affiliate of the company.
  • Bernie Moreno’s siblings and their spouses have donated more than $134,000 since 2021 to Bernie Moreno’s two Senate runs, campaign finance records show.
  • Moreno’s campaign also received $2,900 in 2021 from Luis Andrade, his cousin.
  • Last year, [Andrade] was banned from holding office for 15 years as a result of an administrative disciplinary proceeding, which is now being appealed. He also faces criminal charges.

BAD NEWS BERNIE: 100 Days Until Election Day, Moreno Continues To Show Ohioans He’s Out For Himself

Columbus, OH – As 100 days until #OHSEN general election approaches, Bernie Moreno continues to make it clear that he only looks out for himself. This week, Moreno faced scrutiny for comparing “[federal laws regulating alcohol] and regulating abortion federally” and quadrupling down in support of a national abortion ban in the past two weeks. Plus, Moreno was called out yet again for being a “liar” and being “only out for himself.”

NEED-TO-KNOW THIS WEEK:

  • Moreno is facing scrutiny for making a “connection between [federal laws regulating alcohol] and regulating abortion federally,” marking the fourth time in two weeks where Moreno said he supports a national abortion ban which would overturn the will of Ohio voters.
  • In a recent letter to the editor, Sycamore Township Resident Isaac Goff-Mitchell slammed Bernie Moreno for being a “liar” and called out Moreno for his “disgraceful” attempts to “trick us into voting for him.”
  • Ohioans were reminded this week that Bernie Moreno “doesn’t believe there should be a minimum wage” and said “the market will flush that out.”

🚫 REGULATING ABORTION LIKE… ALCOHOL?: For the fourth time in two weeks, Moreno made it clear he would “[leave] the door open” to a national abortion ban. Moreno went on to “suggest the issue of [abortion] could be handled at the federal level like alcohol,” which led to scrutiny over what he meant by making a “connection between [federal laws regulating alcohol] and regulating abortion federally.” Moreno has said his position on abortion is “crystal, crystal clear” and “has not changed,” and previously he has said is “100% pro-life with no exceptions” and “absolute pro-life, no exceptions.”

🔥 LIAR ON FIRE: Bernie Moreno once again is being slammed for his record of “stiffing workers,” “shredding evidence” and making “dubious claims” on the campaign trail. In the Cincinnati Enquirer, Sycamore Township Resident Isaac Goff-Mitchell made it clear Ohioans “can’t trust [Moreno]… because he’s only out for himself.”

💵 MILLIONAIRE MORENO OPPOSES EXISTENCE OF MINIMUM WAGE: On the 15th anniversary of the last minimum wage increase, Ohioans were reminded that Bernie Moreno “doesn’t believe there should be a minimum wage.” This is one example of Moreno’s anti-worker record that has led Ohio workers to slam Moreno for “putting profits over people” and “betray[ing] workers.”

🗞️ WHAT OHIOANS ARE READING THIS WEEK:

  • New York Post: “When asked if he would vote for a national abortion ban… Moreno left the door open to supporting further federal restrictions.”
  • Heartland Signal: “Before the RNC in Milwaukee, Moreno told reporters that his stance on abortion is “crystal clear” and “has not changed,” suggesting that he was still “100 percent pro-life with zero exceptions.”
  • Sycamore Township Resident Isaac Goff-Mitchell: “Here’s the truth: Moreno is a shady used car salesman who always puts himself first and has screwed over workers time and again.”
  • WKYC: “[Moreno’s national abortion ban] bans abortion for most people, almost all people.”
  • Herald-Star: “[Moreno] was sued in 2017 by former employees for failing to pay for overtime worked and who ultimately lost the suit, paying the employees $416,160 in damages.”

🐤 TWEET OF THE WEEK:

🎶 CODA: “Bernie Moreno has shown Ohioans he is a liar. We can’t trust him to fight for us because he’s only out for himself.”
