Columbus, OH – Bernie Moreno said he “would have opposed” the bipartisan plan that includes the FEND Off Fentanyl Act, a bipartisan bill with “widespread support from law enforcement groups” that would curb the flow of fentanyl across the southern border by cracking down on the chemical suppliers in China and drug traffickers in Mexico. 

Moreno also opposed the bipartisan border security bill, which was endorsed by border patrol agents and included the FEND Off Fentanyl Act. Moreno, who said he “reject[ed]” bipartisanship, has been called out for “do[ing] little to advance Ohioans interests” and “worsen[ing] the problem” by opposing the bipartisan border security bill.

• Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno opposes a $94 billion bill that’s set for a Senate vote as soon as today that funds U.S. allies like Ukraine and Taiwan while potentially banning TikTok, among numerous other components.

• “Bernie would have supported the Israel aid in the package, but would have opposed the larger bill,” said Reagan McCarthy, a spokesperson for the Moreno campaign.

• The sanctions bill also incorporates legislation that Brown wrote called the “Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act. The bill, which has widespread support from law enforcement groups, would impose new sanctions and anti-money laundering penalties on those who supply chemicals from China used for making fentanyl and on Mexican drug cartels who transport the drugs to the United States.

• Brown held a call with reporters on Tuesday in which Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn, a Republican, said he was “delighted” that the fentanyl bill was making it into law.

• While Moreno hasn’t specifically commented on the fentanyl act, he called a previous border security bill that contained it “357 pages of garbage.”

Columbus, OH – Bernie Moreno once again reaffirmed his “well-documented” support for a national abortion ban which would overturn the will of Ohioans who voted overwhelmingly to protect reproductive rights. Moreno has repeatedly supported a national abortion ban, said he is “100% pro-life with no exceptions” and “absolute pro-life, no exceptions,” and voted to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest in Ohio last year by voting against Issue 1.

• Last August, Ohio voters rejected Issue 1, which anti-abortion rights advocates hoped would make it tougher to pass an abortion rights amendment in the state constitution.

• Then, last November, voters adopted an amendment that guarantees a person’s right to an abortion and other reproductive care up until fetal viability.

• Following Moreno’s victory in the GOP Senate primary last month, Democrats released statements calling a vote for Moreno “a vote for a national abortion ban,” and noting he said he’s donated “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to anti-abortion rights causes.

• Moreno contributed $100,000 last summer to one such group, Protect Women Ohio Fund.

• Meanwhile, [Sherrod] Brown has touted his record of supporting abortion access.

• “I know where my opponents stand, too,” he said of the GOP primary candidates. “All three would overturn the will of Ohioans by voting for a national abortion ban.”

• Axios asked Moreno’s campaign this week to comment on the candidate’s abortion policy.

• A spokesperson said Moreno’s “stance is well-documented” and linked to Moreno’s earlier support for the national abortion ban.

Five questions Bernie Moreno is refusing to answer about reports that he is lying about selling Chinese-made cars, lying about shutting down Cleveland State’s Confucius Institute, lying about “escap[ing]” socialism, lying about his business origin story, and lying about contributing to Ohio jobs being “shipped overseas:”

1. Why are you lying to voters by claiming you never sold Chinese-made SUVs? 

2. Will you apologize to Ohio workers who have criticized you for contributing to their jobs being “shipped overseas” and “hurt[ing] Mahoning Valley workers and families?”

3. Why are you lying about shutting down Cleveland State’s Confucius Institute? 

4. Why are you lying about escaping socialism?

5. Why did you claim you “didn’t take handouts” when reporting shows you got your dealership at a steep discount? Will you make documents around the 2005 insider deal available?

Tony Totty, President of UAW Local 14: “[Bernie Moreno] Isn’t On Our Side”

Columbus, OH –  After Ohio workers in the Mahoning Valley “castigate[d]” Bernie Moreno for selling the Chinese-made Buick Envisions, which left a “lasting [negative] impact” on Ohio’s auto industry, and lying about it, Toledo workers criticized Moreno for “sell[ing] Envisions for years despite knowing where they were made.” Local UAW and USW members called Moreno’s claims “the lies of a businessperson” and said that Moreno “isn’t on [workers’] side.”

• Local labor leaders supporting U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s (D., Ohio) re-election bid held a rally in Toledo on Thursday to bash Republican opponent Bernie Moreno for telling untruths about selling China-made vehicles…

• On the campaign trail, Mr. Moreno said he refused to sell the China-made Buick Envision when he owned a Buick-GMC dealership near Cleveland… said Tony Totty, president of UAW Local 14, which represents 1,500 workers at General Motors’ Toledo Propulsion Systems plant.

• But the record shows he did sell Envisions for years despite knowing where they were made, Mr. Totty said.

• “It’s important for us as leadership to protect our members against the lies of a businessperson like this who isn’t on our side,” Mr. Totty said.

• At the rally Thursday, speaker Tiffany McKee, a Lima-area resident and staff representative for the United Steel Workers, said Mr. Brown has a strong track record of supporting Ohio workers, and his positions aren’t debatable.

• “Sherrod has always had our back; he supports us and walks the picket line with us,” Ms. McKee said. “Things like the infrastructure and jobs act he made sure there were real ‘Buy America’ provisions in that.”
