Local UAW 1219 President Criticizes Bernie Moreno For “Refus[ing] To Stand With Auto Workers”

Columbus, OH – On the one-year anniversary of the UAW Stand Up Strike, UAW Local 1219 President Jeff Adams called out Moreno for “sid[ing] with corporate greed” and being “nowhere to be found” on the picket line – the latest instance of Ohio auto workers making clear they don’t trust Moreno due to his record “selling out workers” and “stiffing his employees.”

Lima News: Letter: Moreno refused to stand with auto workers
Jeffery Adams
September 16, 2024

  • As president of the United Auto Workers Local 1219, I have learned that while lots of politicians like to pay lip service to supporting Ohio workers, it’s the tough times that reveal who really has our backs.
  • Last year’s UAW strike was one of those times… [Bernie Moreno] was nowhere to be found during the strike.
  • We never heard Moreno say anything in solidarity with striking workers. Instead, Moreno sided with corporate greed and showed no respect for the sacrifices auto workers have made over the years to save the auto industry.
  • Moreno has a record of stiffing his workers and has been sued over a dozen times for wage theft. In one case, Moreno shredded evidence he was legally required to keep just to weasel his way out of paying his workers the overtime wages they had earned. He was found liable and forced to pay over $400,000 to his employees. He doesn’t even believe the minimum wage should exist.
  • Moreno only claims he supports workers when it is convenient for him. He’s proved that he cares only about himself, and we can’t trust him to fight for us.

What Ohioans Are Reading: Frank LaRose is a “Sore Loser” “Clearly Biased in Favor of His Party and Friends”

Columbus, OH- In case you missed it, Ohio’s biggest Loser Frank LaRose has made plenty of headlines recently. And with all that (highly partisan) activity, Ohioans have been hearing a lot about what he’s been up to.

From testifying before Congress on how to make voting harder across the country, to losing a lawsuit about legislation he pushed that unfairly targeted voters with disabilities, and asking the legislature to consider eliminating ballot drop boxes, LaRose has done everything, but his job.

Check out what Ohioans are reading about Loser LaRose’s latest lies.

Cleveland.com, Katie Paris and Emily Schriver: Sorry, Frank LaRose. Voters are smarter than you think: Ohioans […] don’t have time for political nonsense. Yet that’s exactly what we’re witnessing, again and again, when it comes to the simple idea that everyday Ohioans should have a voice in political decision-making. Secretary of State Frank LaRose and his political friends seem to think frightening and confusing voters is the only way they can score political wins — and they’ve been running this playbook for years now.

WVXU, Howard Wilkinson: Analysis: Frank LaRose changes the rules for using ballot drop boxes ahead of November election: You would think that after losing so many political battles in the past few years, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose would be used to it. But this latest one, coming off a federal court ruling that Ohio voters with disabilities should have better opportunities to cast ballots, has really set him off.

Cleveland.com, Jeff Darcy: LaRose lambasts League of Women Voters, Ballot Boxes: Darcy cartoon – cleveland.com: Is LaRose just a sore loser who now wants to make it harder for us to vote? He lost his U.S. Senate bid to J.D. Vance and has since been showing the same cold touch with women that Vance has on the campaign trail. Talk about “weird.” A main duty of the Secretary of State is to get out the vote, not vanquish it.

Ohio Capital Journal, Marty Schladen:  Sec of State LaRose says it’s easy to vote in Ohio, but critics say he’s making it more difficult Secretary of State Frank LaRose is fond of saying that “it’s easy to vote and hard to cheat” in Ohio elections. He’s supposed to conduct elections neutrally, but the things he’s done concerning the state’s extreme partisan gerrymandering are clearly biased in favor of his own party and his friends, the watchdog said.

Bernie Moreno Fundraised With Nazi Impersonator, State Representative Who Suggested The Holocaust Should Be Taught From “Perspective Of A German Soldier”

Columbus, OH – New reporting from Jewish Insider found that Bernie Moreno fundraised with and accepted thousands of dollars in donations from a “member of a Nazi reenactment group” and an Ohio State Representative who suggested “that the Holocaust should be taught in part ‘from the perspective of a German soldier.’”

Jewish Insider: Bernie Moreno campaigned with two individuals condemned for Nazi, Holocaust comments
Marc Rod
September 17, 2024

  • Bernie Moreno, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Ohio, has attended two fundraisers in recent months co-hosted by individuals who have been condemned for their comments about the Nazis and the Holocaust.
  • State Rep. Sarah Fowler Arthur was a co-host of a July 28 fundraiser attended by Moreno — listed second on event invitations — and can be seen in a photo from the event.
  • Fowler Arthur was photographed a day later standing next to the lectern at another Moreno event. She was photographed with Moreno at a third campaign event in August and posted a message praising him.
  • Fowler Arthur faced backlash from the Jewish community and the Republican Ohio House speaker in 2022 for suggesting in an interview that the Holocaust should be taught in part “from the perspective of a German soldier” in addition to the perspective of victims.
  • Based on a clip posted by News 5 Cleveland, which conducted the interview, Fowler Arthur initially brought up the Holocaust unprompted in an interview about a bill regarding teaching “divisive concepts” in public schools.
  • “You should talk about these atrocities that have happened in history, but you also do have an obligation to point out the value that each individual brings to the table,” she said.
  • During the interview, Fowler Arthur also mischaracterized key facts about the Holocaust, including how many people were killed, as well as the Nazis’ stated reasons for their actions, while also stating that teachers should not tell students that the Nazis were correct.
  • Moreno attended another fundraiser in July co-hosted by Richard Iott, a former U.S. House candidate whose 2010 House campaign was torpedoed by revelations that Iott was a member of a Nazi reenactment group, photographed in Nazi regalia.
  • The group specifically wore the uniforms of the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, a unit of foreign collaborators from countries invaded by the Nazis who joined the Nazi army and were responsible for shooting nearly 100 Jews during death marches through Austria.
  • Iott has donated at least $5,800 to Moreno’s campaign and can be seen in a photo from the event.
  • When Iott’s activities emerged in 2010, he doubled down, confirming in an interview that he was aware of the unit’s background.
  • “I don’t know if you call them collaborators. They were volunteers. They wanted to fight what they saw as a bigger threat to them than Germany,” Iott said. “They were doing what they thought was right for their country, and they were going out and fighting what they thought was a bigger, you know a bigger evil.”
  • Iott was condemned at the time by the Republican Jewish Coalition and then-House Republican whip Eric Cantor (R-VA).
