Ohio House Democratic Caucus Campaign Manager
Position Title: Campaign Manager
Supervisor: Candidate / OHDC Political Director
Compensation: $4000-$5000/month (stipend)
The Ohio House Democratic Caucus seeks energetic and dedicated individuals to provide leadership and support to the candidates running for office in the 2024 election cycle. The Campaign Manager(s) will be responsible for completing a training program, managing a field campaign, providing candidate and campaign support, and maintaining political relationships throughout the state house district assigned.
The ideal candidates will have at least two cycles of campaign work, have knowledge of the statehouse district, can manage and work with the candidate and campaign staff to support Democratic candidates for the Ohio House.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Candidate, Executive Director or Political Director, the Campaign Manager is responsible for the following:
● Build and maintain relationships with county parties, Democratic elected officials, activists, grassroots leaders, labor leaders, political clubs, candidates, campaigns, elected officials, Democratic staffers, etc.
● Design and provide training with volunteers and activists on campaign management and tools like VoteBuilder, Mobilize, Action Network, etc.
● Help candidates to create and execute campaign plans.
● Work collaboratively with grassroots organizations and regional organizers on the Coordinated Campaign and other campaigns.
● Collaborate with county party leaders to help them build and improve their parties and build lasting infrastructure.
Performance Expectations
The Campaign Manager must:
● Effectively build and maintain relationships with local leaders, elected officials, campaign staff, volunteers, and the house candidate.
● Have excellent organizational skills and are disciplined in time management.
● Meet deadlines, have a responsive and collaborative communication style.
● Have knowledge of Ohio politics, the demographic differences of the house district, and an understanding of the political landscape.
● Be adaptable to the changing nature of campaigns and flexible to create new tactics and use new tools with a positive attitude.
● Adhere to the highest ethical standards. Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the house candidate. Demonstrate commitment to continued professional growth and development.
● Frequent local travel. Must be available for frequent evening and weekend work.
Qualifications
● Willingness to live in and travel around the House district, including evening and weekend commitments to engage with volunteers and carry out field programs. (Evenings and weekends will increase as we get closer to GOTV/Election Day 2022.)
● A solid understanding of modern campaign practices; thinking outside of the box, working well with diverse coalitions and a series of campaign vendors, and being able to create and maintain donor relationships.
● A track record of success designing and delivering results on political, legislative, and/or electoral programs, plans, and campaigns;
● An approach to management that is empowers others and develops leadership;
● Past experience with VoteBuilder/VAN in an administrator role;
● Knowledge of modern and effective voter contact tactics and how they impact elections;
● Experience managing and mentoring volunteers; and
● A belief that our mission matters and that electing Democrats to the Ohio House is critical in moving Ohio forward.
