Ohio Coordinated Campaign Deputy Voter Access Director
Summary: In 2024, Ohio is a frontline battleground state with competitive races up and down the ballot. Ohio must re-elect Senator Sherrod Brown in what will be the nation’s top targeted race in 2024, determining the control of the US Senate. This year will also offer the chance to take control of the Ohio Supreme Court, make gains in the state legislature, and defend three battleground congressional seats. The ODP Coordinated Campaign Voter Access team will be fundamental to the success of Democratic campaigns at every level, by supporting an innovative, data-driven statewide plan to address the various barriers to casting a ballot in Ohio.
This Deputy Voter Access Director will help lead the observation, ballot chase and cure, and close and post-election programming. This Deputy Director will help build staff and volunteer capacity and coordinate across various campaign departments to meet lofty goals for observation needs, ballot chase and cure plans, and close election programming. This person will also work closely with other members of the Voter Access team to support sustainable relationship building among Ohio’s strong network of legal volunteers associated with the Ohio Promote the Vote Committee. This position is full-time and based in Columbus, Ohio.
Key Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Lead the planning process and execution of early vote and election day observer recruitment, training, and placement
- Work collaboratively with the Voter Access Director and the data team to determine recruitment toplines and maintain systems for keeping voter access volunteer data up to date in Votebuilder
- Manage Voter Access Regional and Associate staff in reaching observer recruitment goals
- Lead the planning and execution of ballot cure and ballot count programming to make sure every vote is counted in critical races up and down the ballot
- Collaborate with the Voter Access Team in building and maintaining strong and trusting relationships with Ohio Promote the Vote leaders and members, local party leaders, and other activist groups
- Support internal and external communication around voter access in Ohio
- Provide additional support for the Voter Access Hotline program and other tasks as assigned
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- 2 cycles of campaign experience within Organizing or Voter Protection/Access, with specific experience in training volunteers and volunteer leaders is preferred
- A creative approach to organizing and eagerness to try new solutions to meet ambitious goals
- Highly communicative – responsive to internal and external requests, emails, and calls, within reason
- Dedication to working with stakeholders to build a pipeline of volunteers to take on multiple roles within the voter access department
- Multitasker – Able to juggle multiple activities yet not lose focus on top priorities, deadlines, or let something slip through the cracks
- Committed to the values and practices of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace with the ability to take feedback and learn
- Juris Doctorate – a law degree is beneficial for this role but not required
- Proficiency in MS Excel or Google Sheets and Votebuilder, LBJ experience a plus
- Commitment to electing Democrats up and down the ticket in Ohio

Deputy-level salaries will be $6,480 per month and full benefits including PTO as needed, health, dental, voluntary vision insurance, and a monthly $50 cell phone stipend. This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and is likely to require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle. This role will be part of a collective bargaining unit represented by IBEW 1466. Housing will not be provided.
