Tonight: Trump to Lie About Disastrous Start for Ohioans

Columbus, Ohio- This evening, Donald Trump will give a joint address to Congress and undoubtedly attempt to spin the chaos, confusion, and cruelty of the past six weeks. The truth is his administration only works for billionaires and special interests, while Ohioans have been left behind.

Instead of bringing costs down, Donald Trump raised prices for Ohio families at the grocery store, the gas pump and more.

  • Trump’s tax on Ohio families will raise prices at the grocery store on a wide variety of products. Some of the top products imported from Canada include vegetable oil, beef products, and cookies. The United States gets many fruits and vegetables from Mexico, as well as beer and tequila.
  • Ohioans also expect a higher bill the next time they fill up at the pump. The vast majority of gasoline the United States imports comes from Mexico and Canada. Ohio’s proximity to Canada means Ohioans may be disproportionately affected by Trump’s new tax on working families.

Millions of Ohio families are at risk of losing critical healthcare access so Donald Trump and Elon Musk can fund tax handouts for fellow billionaires.

  • Over 771,000 Ohioans are at risk of losing access to Medicaid if Republicans in the state and federal government don’t include enough funding in their budget.
  • Layoffs at the Department of Veterans Affairs are forcing Ohio veterans to wait longer for critical appointments or even skip them entirely. Employees cut include providers of mental health services, leading to cancelled appointments and doubts about where care will come from.

Thousands of Ohio public servants have lost their jobs, with more likely on the way.

  • The Trump administration directed federal agencies in a memo to prepare for more mass layoffs of federal workers.  Ohio is home to 49,450 federal civilian employees, and many are now facing a potential job loss.
  • Among those cut by Elon Musk include staff at Ohio VA offices. While Musk gets richer, Ohio veterans will pay the price.

Senators Husted & Moreno Rubber Stamp Trump Tax on Ohio’s Working Families

Columbus, Ohio- After a temporary pause, today Donald Trump reinstated tariffs on Canada and Mexico. Senators Husted and Moreno have previously expressed support for the tariffs while ignoring the working families in Ohio that will disproportionately pay the price.

Across the state, Ohioans should expect to pay more at the pump, as tariffs on Canadian gas pushes prices sky high. Ohio relies on Canada for critical construction materials- making building and buying a home even more difficult. Finally, after already paying more on their energy bills that are already higher than they should be due to Republican corruption at the state level, Ohioans can expect their energy bills to increase again.

Ohio’s proximity to Canada means the state’s economy will disproportionately feel the effects of these tariffs. Ohio imports over $17 billion in goods and services from Canada annually. Meanwhile,  Ohio sells more goods to Canada than the next eight largest foreign markets combined. Now, Donald Trump wants to take that all away to cut taxes for his fellow billionaires, and Ohio’s Senators are nowhere to be found.

“Ohio will be uniquely affected by Donald Trump’s tax on working families,” said Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer. “Normally, that’s when one of our senators would advocate for his constituents, but instead Husted & Moreno continue to hide from their constituents while rubber stamping policies they know will harm our state.”

ICYMI: Ramaswamy’s Little-Known Nonprofit Highlights Obsession with Conspiracy Theories & Extreme Politics

Columbus, Ohio- In case you missed it, last week NBC 4 highlighted Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s little-known nonprofit that was established to “stop the government and media from lying.” Despite dodging those topics on the campaign trail, it’s clear Ramaswamy is an avid conspiracy theorist who is too extreme for Ohio.

Ramaswamy’s nonprofit, Stand for Truth, features a laundry list of conspiracy theories, from the origin of COVID-19 to January 6th. Instead of working to help Ohio’s working families ahead of his run for governor, Ramaswamy instead worked to appeal to the most extreme corners of his party while leaving Ohioans behind.

“While our state’s working families suffer, Ramaswamy would rather share extreme conspiracies than help Ohioans,” said Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer. “He’s running away from his own organization because he knows it’s too extreme for Ohio voters. Democrats will make sure voters know what Ramaswamy really stands for.

READ: Vivek Ramaswamy’s nonprofit is barely known, but it makes big claims | NBC4 WCMH-TV

  • Ohio billionaire and 2026 gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has a little-known nonprofit with a registered office at Easton Town Center. Stand For TRUTH was incorporated on March 29, 2024, according to Ohio records, and is a tax-exempt nonprofit per the IRS. Ramaswamy, 39, is the face of the organization, and several of his allies serve as directors. It has garnered minimal attention despite activity across social media and Ramaswamy’s own fame.
  • According to state filings, Stand For TRUTH was established to educate the public about misinformation from journalists and government officials. The nonprofit lists more than a dozen examples, alleging the government and media outlets are lying about the origin of COVID-19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the war in Ukraine, the 2017 Charlottesville rally and the Jan. 6 insurrection.
  • Along with being the face of the nonprofit, Ramaswamy has publicly agreed with many of the policies and assertions listed by Stand For TRUTH. NBC4 asked Ramaswamy if Stand For TRUTH’s policies align with his gubernatorial campaign, but he did not respond by publication.

Five Things Senator Husted Did This Week

Columbus, Ohio- While Ohio’s working families wonder how they will make ends meet as egg prices increase, their access to healthcare is threatened, and their energy bills are still high from a corruption scandal, their senator is nowhere to be found. That’s why we’re telling Ohioans about five things Senator Husted did this week that hurt Ohioans.

1) Had a “great visit” with Elon Musk in the same week that Musk laid off public servants in Ohio, cut services for our state’s veterans, and more. While Ohio’s working families suffer, Husted & Musk would rather pad the pockets of billionaires and special interests.

      2) Refused to answer questions about if he would vote to defund or significantly change the PACT Act- which provides healthcare for veterans exposed to toxic substances while serving our country.

      3) Advocated for Medicaid work requirements that could result in more than 61,000 Ohioans losing access to healthcare. As his new best friend Elon Musk continues to be a clear and present danger to all medicaid recipients, he’s been silent.

        4) Despite claiming otherwise, Husted continued to largely refuse to listen to or meet with constituents that weren’t special interest groups.  What is he hiding from?

        5) Of course, this wasn’t the week that Husted finally explained his role in the biggest corruption scandal in our state’s history. Maybe next week will be the week when the “Golden Boy of FirstEnergy” answers for his role in the scandal that skyrocketed energy bills for Ohioans, but we’re not holding our breath.

ICYMI: Ohio Republicans Call Voters Dumb Again

Columbus, OH — In case you missed it, Ohio Senate Republicans Wednesday voted to make sweeping changes to the voter-approved legislation legalizing marijuana and setting out procedures for its sale and distribution. When voters protested the changes, Republicans said they didn’t know what they actually voted for.

It’s disappointing but unsurprising from a party that has shown their blatant disregard for Ohio voters over and over again.  Last month Ohio Republican Party Chair Alex Triantafilou was caught admitting “confusing the voters was not such a bad strategy.” He even credited the “entire family of the Republican party” with helping him to trick the voters. Many of his family members will be on the ballot in 2026- and they’re going to have a tough time explaining to voters why confusing them was a good strategy.

Republican disregard for Ohio voters doesn’t stop there. Gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called Ohioans “lazy” and “mediocre” in a rant that showed his true colors long before the race even started. If his disparaging words weren’t enough, Ramaswamy moved his business from Ohio to Texas just this past fall.

“Whether it’s Triantafilou, Ramaswamy, or extreme legislators at the statehouse, it’s painfully obvious Republicans think Ohioans are stupid,” said Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer. “Ohioans are sick of the constant trickery that Republicans bring out every time voters make a choice that works for them instead of special interests.
