The Supreme Court abandoned five decades of precedent when the radical justices made a purely political decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. They're supposed to be impartial, but instead chose to make a political ruling to undermine abortion rights, even though 85% of Americans support abortion.

Radical Republicans will not stop until they’ve undermined abortion rights both nationally and at the state level. Their end goal is a national ban on abortion and reproductive care. Democrats will not let that happen.

We’ve been working hard to protect abortion access across the country. Here’s how Democrats deliver on reproductive rights:

  • Ohio voters passed Issue 1, repealing the xtreme abortion ban passed by Republicans.
  • The Biden Administration directed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to issue guidance affirming requirements under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), making it clear to health providers that federal law preempts state law restricting access to abortion in emergency situations.
  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are defending access to mifepristone, a safe and effective drug used in medication abortion that the FDA first approved more than twenty years ago, including in a lawsuit in Texas that attempts to eliminate access nationwide.
  • HHS issued guidance to roughly 60,000 U.S. retail pharmacies to remind them of their obligations under federal civil rights laws to ensure access to comprehensive reproductive health care services including birth control and mifepristone.
  • The DOJ continues to robustly enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which protects the right to access and provide reproductive health services.
  • HHS launched and maintains ReproductiveRights.gov, which provides timely and accurate information on people’s right to access reproductive health care, including contraception, abortion services, and health insurance coverage.

Abortion care is health care, and we’ll continue fighting for reproductive rights across our state. No matter how Republicans try to undermine abortion access, Democrats will keep fighting to preserve your reproductive freedom. As long as there are Republicans crusading against abortion in some parts of the country, the health, safety and individual freedom of women is threatened everywhere.
