Turner Skipped Dayton Community Meeting About City’s Response to KKK Rally
DAYTON — Congressman Mike Turner was invited to participate in a community meeting in Dayton on Wednesday night to strategize the city’s response to a planned KKK rally — but instead of showing up in his district and standing up to hate, Turner chose to attend Donald Trump’s semi-coherent speech 70 miles away in Lima.
“Mike Turner once said, ‘Donald Trump is not qualified to be president of the United States or hold any elective office,’ but now he can’t wait to show up at one of his rallies and cheer on Trump — even as Trump’s vanity project could take away $61 million in funding from the National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “While Turner was helping to stroke Trump’s ego, more than 200 people came together in Turner’s congressional district to talk about how Dayton will push back against racism and hatred when the KKK comes to town in May. It’s a shame Turner couldn’t make time to stand up for his constituents and stand up to the KKK. Dayton deserves better representation in Congress than a Trump lackey like Turner.”
