Top Trump Health Official’s Visit To Ohio Is One More Reminder Of Trump’s Failed Coronavirus Response

CLEVELAND — As Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma holds a photo op in Ohio today, her visit is a reminder that Donald Trump’s reckless response to the coronavirus crisis has resulted in a devastating surge of cases, including in Cleveland and Columbus, two cities which Dr. Deborah Birx yesterday cited as having increasing test positivity rates.

“Donald Trump continues to ignore public health experts and pushed to reopen states too quickly and with no real plan, and now we’re seeing a devastating second wave of infections, including here in Ohio,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “Last night Trump said he thought testing was ‘overrated,’ but widespread testing is what we need to get the coronavirus crisis under control, get our kids back to school safely and get our economy open again. Seema Verma is coming to Ohio today to hold a photo op to distract from the Trump administration’s abject failure.”

Last week a Cleveland-area nonprofit told WOIO about the administration’s testing plans:

“I will believe it when I see it. With nursing homes being ground zero and so many deaths, it is our opinion no meaningful progress has been made to address nursing homes at the federal or state Level.”
