The Dolan Budget: Handouts To Special Interests, Legislators And Lobbyists

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Senate Republican budget, “quarterbacked” by state Sen. Matt Dolan, features a $5 million giveaway to special-interest fake women’s health centers, restoration of the billion-dollar “legislators and lobbyists” tax loophole and a large investment in education vouchers being pushed by the Koch brothers and Betsy DeVos.

“House Democrats led the process to modernize Ohio’s tax system to benefit working people and families by cutting the state’s LLC ‘lobbyists and legislators’ loophole, a tax giveaway to the well-off that has failed to create jobs. It’s money that could be used to improve the quality of life for all Ohioans — but Matt Dolan and Senate Republicans decided to let the lobbyists and legislators keep their giveaway,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper.

“Meanwhile, Dolan also decided to take money away from low-income school districts and low-income families to fund a special project pushed by the Koch brothers and Betsy DeVos and give away $5 million to special-interest, fake women’s health centers that lie to women. Dolan’s budget rips resources away from children to give money to Republican political cronies that donate to, and volunteer on, their political campaigns.”
