COLUMBUS — Yesterday Ohio’s Republican secretary of state, Frank LaRose, said, “You should think very carefully before you say something that would cause people to lose faith in elections … When that is done for partisan political gain, it is the height of irresponsibility.”
Less than 24 hours later the Ohio Republican Party sent a fundraising email accusing Democrats of trying to steal the 2020 election, and Donald Trump himself peddled a discredited conspiracy theory about the 2016 election.
“We had a good bipartisan discussion yesterday, and I appreciated that Frank LaRose said it’s ‘irresponsible to fearmonger’ about elections,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “Consistent with those words, we hope he will reassure Ohioans that the president’s and the Ohio GOP’s conspiracy theories and unhinged rhetoric are not to be taken seriously and only foment distrust in our political process. We all need to stand up to those who are undermining public faith in fair and free elections.”
