Supreme Court Ruling In Friedrichs Case Is Victory For Middle-Class Families

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party issued the following statement from Chairman David Pepper in response to today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association:

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court to uphold the lower court’s ruling to protect workers’ rights to negotiate good wages and benefits for the work they do is a victory for middle-class families in Ohio and across the country. In 2011, Ohioans spoke loudly and clearly when they voted to reject Governor John Kasich’s attack on public-sector workers and defeated Senate Bill 5. This case could have undone the will of the people and stacked the deck even more against everyday Ohioans. Right-wing extremists were hoping the Supreme Court would do their dirty work for them and use the court to enact so-called ‘right to work’ nationwide. Their loss today means that Ohio’s middle class wins.”
