COLUMBUS — Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper released the following statement Thursday after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on multiple cases regarding gerrymandering:
“In our elections, every voice should be heard, and every vote should count equally. Elections should be determined by voters, not politicians who rig maps. The court’s disappointing decision today was centered on a legal debate. But it doesn’t alter the factual finding of the U.S. Southern District of Ohio: that Republicans have cynically and secretly rigged Ohio elections for a decade.
“It also doesn’t change the fact that an overwhelming majority of Ohio voters have twice made clear that they’ve had it with rigged elections, and therefore voted to change Ohio’s Constitution to assure fair districts.
“Thanks to Ohio voters, and no thanks to the Supreme Court, the corrupt practice of gerrymandering remains in its final days in Ohio. Ohio’s Constitution requires fair districts for ‘22.”
