Sen. Rob Portman Is Out Of Touch

When Touting GOP Plan That Will Raise Taxes on Ohio Families, Portman Misses Mark on the Middle Class

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement from Chairman David Pepper in response to Sen. Rob Portman’s claim that $150,000 represents a middle-class income for an American family:

“It’s disgraceful that Rob Portman is running around the state cheerleading for a proposal that will actually raise taxes for thousands of Ohio’s middle-class families, while giving a massive tax break to big corporations and millionaires and billionaires. Portman is so out of touch that he thinks a family making $150,000 a year is middle class. Barely one in 10 Ohio families are fortunate enough to make that much. The median household income in Ohio is far less, about $50,000 a year, and many of these families would pay more under the plan he is touting.”

An annual household income of $150,000 would put a family in the top 11 percent of taxpayers.
