COLUMBUS — Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia are both visiting Ohio today to spin Donald Trump’s disastrous trade failures, but today’s photo ops can’t change the fact that General Motors is building its new Chevrolet Blazer in Mexico, not their Lordstown plant, which GM shut down last year.
“Wilbur Ross and Eugene Scalia can’t spin their boss’s failed record for working families,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “In a November 2015 speech in Columbus, Donald Trump promised, ‘We’re going to take back our jobs from China and Mexico,’ but Trump’s reckless trade war by tweet has actually resulted in manufacturing job losses. At a speech in Toledo in September 2016, Trump said, ‘New factories will come rushing onto our shores,’ but instead of building the Chevy Blazer in Ohio, GM decided to shut down their Lordstown factory and build their SUV in Mexico. Ohioans deserve better than broken promises — we deserve a leader who will stand up for our livelihoods. That’s why we’re putting an end to Trump’s disastrous presidency this November, and it’s why we’re going to send Joe Biden to the White House.”
