“Do Your Job, Rob” Phone Bank Alerts Ohioans to Sen. Rob Portman’s Supreme Court Obstruction

COLUMBUS — Continuing Sen. Rob Portman’s week of accountability, the Ohio Democratic Party today held a “Do Your Job, Rob” phone bank, alerting Ohioans about Portman’s continued failure to uphold his constitutional responsibilities by refusing to consider the Supreme Court nominee.

Volunteers made more than 450 calls during the phone bank, asking Ohioans to call Portman’s office and share what would happen to them if they followed his example and refused to do their jobs.

The text of the phone bank script follows.

As you may be aware, Republican Senator Rob Portman is refusing to even consider the President’s Supreme Court nominee. Senator Portman’s refusal to uphold his constitutional responsibilities is an insult to Ohio. Just like the ultimate Washington insider that he is, Senator Portman is obediently prioritizing the broken politics of the D.C. power brokers and well connected special interests he serves at our expense.

We just want Senator Portman to do one thing: his job. We need people like you who care about Ohio to help share the message: Can we count on you to call Sen. Portman’s office at 614-469-6774 to tell him what would happen if you followed his example and refused to do your job?  If no one answers, leave a voicemail with his office.

Polling shows that a strong majority of Ohioans disagree with Portman’s position on the Supreme Court, and he has faced blistering criticism from editorial boards and protesters.

The Strickland for Senate campaign also recently launched a website, www.DoYourJobRob.com, highlighting the voices of Ohioans speaking out against Sen. Portman’s Supreme Court obstructionism.

In addition, Portman’s breathtaking hypocrisy was revealed in a new Toldeo Blade report, which uncovered video footage of Portman previously stating “confirming judges is a ‘solemn responsibility’ of the U.S. Senate.”
