Ohio Women Are Paying The Price For Trump’s Broken Promises And Failed Policies

COLUMBUS — In response to Vice President Joe Biden releasing his agenda for women, the Ohio Democratic Party today released the following statement from Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Kathy DiCristofaro:

“Donald Trump’s reckless and chaotic coronavirus response has wrecked the economy and destroyed millions of jobs — which has had a disproportionate impact on working women. He has attacked women’s health care and reproductive freedom and relentlessly undermined the Affordable Care Act, which ensured women could not be charged more than men and made maternity care an essential benefit. Trump promised he would support families and help working parents with the spiraling cost of child care, but that’s just one more broken promise. Ohio women are paying the price for Donald Trump’s broken promises and failed policies, and that’s why we need to elect Joe Biden this November.”

BACKGROUND ON TRUMP’S BROKEN PROMISES TO OHIO WOMEN

Promise: “On child care, I’m asking Congress to pass legislation to support the American family and make safe and affordable child care accessible to all.” [USA Thank You Tour Rally, Cincinnati, Dec. 1, 2016]

Reality: Trump’s tax scam helped the wealthy at the expense of working parents, reducing the value of the child and dependent care tax credit for many working families while handing massive giveaways to billionaires and corporations.

Reality: Even after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump administration scaled back paid leave requirements for employers, allowing many companies to decline to provide sick leave for child care. Some 17.7 million health care workers were excluded from emergency paid leave, 75 percent of whom are women.

Promise: “Our agenda will fight to increase pay and opportunities for women in the workforce.” [USA Thank You Tour Rally, Cincinnati, Dec. 1, 2016]

Reality: Trump revoked protections against workplace sexual harassment, sexual assault, discrimination and pay disparities.
