Ohio Dems’ Statement on Texas Ruling on the Affordable Care Act

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement from Chairman David Pepper in response to last evening’s ruling by a Texas judge that puts health coverage in jeopardy for millions of Ohioans:

“Over the past two years, Ohioans have been standing up and speaking out to demand that elected officials protect their health care, as Republicans have launched one attack after another. Meanwhile, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has done nothing — in fact, on his first day in office, he actually filed suit to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

“With yesterday’s decision, health coverage for millions of Ohioans — those covered under John Kasich’s Medicaid expansion, those with pre-existing conditions who were denied coverage before the ACA, those who receive affordable insurance and subsidies through HealthCare.gov — their health care is now at risk. This is put-up or shut-up time for Mike DeWine and the incoming AG, Dave Yost. After all, DeWine claimed during the campaign that he supported protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Will he join the case and side with the people of Ohio? Or will DeWine and Yost sit on the sidelines and watch as Ohioans’ health care is taken away?”
