Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus Statement on U.S. House Passage of Dangerous, Unconstitutional Attack on Women’s Health

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus released the following statement from Chairwoman Kathy DiCristofaro in response to the U.S. House passing H.R. 36, which would criminalize abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy:

“In both Washington and Columbus, Republican politicians keep trying to interfere with a woman’s deeply personal decision about whether she should become a parent. Here in Ohio, Governor John Kasich has signed 18 anti-choice measures into law, including a 20-week abortion ban that makes no exception for a woman who has been raped or been the victim of incest. Now every Ohio Republican in the U.S. House has backed a similar ban that is dangerous to women’s health and plainly unconstitutional. During the campaign, Donald Trump said ‘there has to be some form of punishment’ for a woman who has an abortion. The entire Republican Party has adopted Trump’s extreme and cruel view of women’s health care.”
