Ohio Democratic Party Statement on Today’s Supreme Court Hearing

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement on today’s Supreme Court hearing of Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt:

“Today’s Supreme Court hearing is incredibly important to the future of women’s health care in America,” said Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Kathy DiCristofaro. “Here in Ohio, Governor John Kasich has attacked women’s reproductive rights time and time again, signing nearly 20 anti-choice measures into law. In doing so, he’s acting against the will of the majority of Americans who support Roe and embracing radical extremists who have been indicted on felony charges.”

“Governor Kasich has continually enacted laws that allow politicians to intrude on decisions that should be between a woman and her doctor,” said Carrie Russell Hartman, Ohio Young Democrats Treasurer. “By signing laws that require medically unnecessary ultrasounds, prohibit rape victims from hearing about their legal rights and outlaw abortion after 20 weeks with no exceptions for rape and incest, Kasich has demonstrated a callous and cruel attitude toward the women of Ohio. These attacks at the state level are exactly why this year’s election — and the selection of our next U.S. Supreme Court justice — are so critical.”
