Ohio Democratic Party Statement on Ted Strickland’s Primary Election Victory

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement on Ted Strickland’s victory in today’s U.S. Senate primary election:

“Congratulations to Ted Strickland on his overwhelming victory tonight,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “P.G. Sittenfeld and Kelli Prather waged spirited campaigns that brought important issues to the forefront. The stakes in this election could not be higher, and the contrast could not be clearer between Ted Strickland and Rob Portman. The Ohio Democratic Party, our supporters and volunteers across the state will work tirelessly to build on Ted’s momentum and help carry it to victory in November.”

“Today brings us one step closer to electing Ted to fight for Ohio’s working families in the U.S. Senate and defeating Senator Portman and the Washington power brokers and wealthy special interests he serves,” said Ohio Democratic Party Executive Director Greg Beswick. “In the year of the outsider, Senator Portman is the ultimate Washington insider. At every turn, Portman has voted to make life harder for working people, seniors and students, in order to appease his Washington power brokers and well-connected friends. Senator Portman’s job-killing trade agenda — including repeated votes for the worst unfair trade deals we’ve seen — have cost hundreds of thousands of Ohio jobs.”
