Ohio Democratic Party Statement on Passing of Harry Meshel

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement on the passing of former state Senate President and former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Harry Meshel:

“Today the Ohio Democratic Party family is mourning the passing of a true public servant, a great Greek-American, a decorated war veteran, a tireless advocate for Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and one of the Buckeye State’s sharpest political minds,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “For decades Harry Meshel was a force to be reckoned with in Ohio politics, and he helped to nurture the careers of countless elected officials. Every time I talked with him, even as he entered his 90s, I learned something new.”

“Senator Meshel was a focused and determined man,” said Ohio Democratic Party Vice Chair Rhine McLin. “He had a great sense of humor, but he was always looking out for his constituents. Quite simply, Senator Meshel understood politics, and I was proud to have served in the General Assembly with him. Ohio Democrats are sending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the senator’s family and friends.”
