COLUMBUS – The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement from Chairman David Pepper on Ohioans voting overwhelmingly in favor of Issue 1, the legislative redistricting constitutional amendment on today’s ballot:
“We are thrilled with the passage of Issue 1, the redistricting amendment, because we expect it will lead to a larger number of more competitive districts at the statehouse level. In the long term, this should lead to a legislature far more in the mainstream of Ohio — as opposed to the current extreme group that occupies the statehouse.
“The Ohio Democratic Party’s executive committee formally endorsed Issue 1 in September and encouraged all Ohio Democrats to vote YES on Issue 1. The state party used email and social media extensively, as well as traditional forms of outreach including mail and robocalls to tens of thousands of voters, to communicate with Democratic voters about the redistricting amendment. We’re proud that our outreach efforts helped to push Issue 1 over the top.”
