Ohio Democratic Party Statement on 5,000 COVID-19 Deaths in Ohio

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement from Chairman David Pepper on today’s announcement that more than 5,000 Ohioans have died from COVID-19:

“Today we reached a tragic milestone — 5,000 of our fellow Ohioans lost to the coronavirus epidemic. We cannot lose sight of the fact that each one of these 5,000 lives was important. Each one of these 5,000 Ohioans meant the world to someone. They were loved as grandmothers and grandfathers, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, sisters and brothers. Their lives are not forgotten.

“At the same time, today is also a horrific reminder that it didn’t have to be this bad — Donald Trump’s failed leadership has resulted in the U.S. having more coronavirus cases and deaths than any other country in the world. While we in Ohio were fortunate to have the steady, empathetic leadership of Dr. Amy Acton guiding our initial response, extremists attacked her incessantly. Now we’ve been without a health director for months. Coronavirus cases are surging across the state, particularly in rural communities, as it is in so much of the country.

“It’s more important than ever that we vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They have a plan to defeat the coronavirus and save lives, here in Ohio and around the country.”
