Previously Sent By Mandel “To A Beginner’s Course In The Subject He Was Overseeing,” Aquilino Should Once More Prepare For Newest Taxpayer-Funded Job Gifted To Him By Josh
COLUMBUS — TAs Josh Mandel doles out yet another taxpayer-funded promotion to his longtime political crony, Joe Aquilino, the Ohio Democratic Party today is inviting him to attend another training course for his new position as the treasurer’s Executive Counsel. This kind of on-the-job training isn’t new to Aquilino, who following Josh’s 2010 election as Treasurer was given the role of director of debt management and then quickly sent “to a beginner’s course in the subject he was overseeing.”
“As Josh Mandel doles out yet another taxpayer-funded promotion to his longtime political crony Joe Aquilino, we wanted to alert him to a Chief-Of-Staff training opportunity, since we have no reason to believe he’s anymore qualified for his new job than he was his last one,” said Jake Strassberger, spokesman for the Ohio Democratic Party. “Josh’s continued use of the Treasurer’s office to benefit himself and his political cronies and friends proves he’s learned nothing from 2012 and is nothing more than a politician who can’t be trusted.”

“Joe Aquilino — Mandel’s debt management director at the time — attended the conference.
The seminar is tailored for those new to the subject.
…Aquilino, 26, had been the political director for Mandel’s 2010 campaign for treasurer before being tapped to oversee Ohio’s debt management, including issuing new bonds and working with the state’s investment underwriters. Aquilino has since left that position to serve as political director for Mandel’s Senate race against Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).
Wilson White, a municipal bond expert who spent more than 60 years purchasing bonds from U.S. states, including Ohio, said Aquilino’s qualifications are troubling.”
Dayton Daily News: Treasurer Mandel under scrutiny for hiring practices
“Republican Josh Mandel hired young, relatively inexperienced staffers from his 2010 campaign and gave them high-ranking jobs in the state treasurer’s office, a Dayton Daily News examination found.
…One of Mandel’s first hires was the then-26-year-old Joe Aquilino, who emerged from his role as political director during the 2010 treasurer’s race to become director of debt management at a salary of $90,000 a year. Aquilino, who became a lawyer in November, has returned to the campaign side as political director now that Mandel is running for the U.S. Senate.”
