Ohio Democratic Party Endorses Issue 1, Statewide Candidates

Party’s Executive Committee Also Endorses State House, Senate, Congressional Candidates

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party executive committee voted Wednesday night to endorse Kathleen Clyde for secretary of state, Steve Dettelbach for attorney general, Rob Richardson for treasurer, Zack Space for auditor, Judge Melody Stewart and Judge Michael P. Donnelly for Ohio Supreme Court, as well as Issue 1, the congressional redistricting reform amendment.

“Ohio Democrats have one of the strongest statewide slates in recent history, with Kathleen Clyde, Steve Dettelbach, Rob Richardson and Zack Space running for down-ballot offices and Judge Melody Stewart and Judge Michael P. Donnelly running for the Ohio Supreme Court,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “It’s all on the line in 2018 — protecting voters’ rights, holding failing charter schools accountable, ensuring fair districts and making sure everyone plays by the same set of rules. That’s why Democrats must turn out and vote up and down the ticket this year.

“We’re also proud to back Issue 1, which would not have become a reality without the hard work of grassroots activists from across the state who collected hundreds of thousands of petition signatures for the Fair Congressional Districts for Ohio campaign. Their activism pushed Statehouse Republicans to take action on an issue that has poisoned Ohio and national politics for decades. We encourage all Ohioans to vote this May in favor of Issue 1.”

The party’s executive committee also endorsed the following incumbent officeholders and candidates:
