Despite Frightening Comments about Women, Veterans, Immigrants and More, Portman Tells The Hill “I Intend To” Support the Nominee
Columbus – U.S. Sen. Rob Portman told The Hill newspaper he “intends to” support Donald Trump, the current GOP front-runner, if he becomes the Republican presidential nominee.
The Hill reports:
“I intend to,” said Sen. Rob Portman (R), who faces a tough re-election in Ohio, a swing state and presidential battleground. “I guess you could come up with some scenario where something crazy could happen, but I think the country’s in trouble and I think if we don’t have new leadership and new policies, it’s hard to imagine it getting back on track.”
Given Trump’s recent comments, it’s hard not to “come up with some scenario where something crazy could happen” under a Trump administration.
If the comments below aren’t enough to cause alarm for Portman, what would?
- Trump on Women:
“You know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of [expletive].” (5/1/1991)
- Trump on Veterans:
“[John McCain] is not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” (7/18/15)
- Trump on Immigration:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” (6/16/15)
