As Pandemic Worsens, 1.6M Ohioans Still Facing Trump Tax Hike

COLUMBUS — It’s Tax Day for millions of working Americans who are still waiting on the $4,000 tax cut Donald Trump promised for the average family; instead, Trump’s tax scam funnelled billions to the ultra-wealthy, while more than 1.6 million Ohioans will face a tax hike by 2027.

“Time and again, Donald Trump promised to help Ohio’s working families,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “Instead, he handed massive tax giveaways to his rich friends — and left more than 1.6 million Ohioans with the bill. As the pandemic worsens and our economy continues to crater on Trump’s watch, we need a president who will put the health, lives and livelihoods of working people first. We can’t afford another four years of Trump’s broken promises. This November, Ohioans are going to bring his failed presidency to an end and send Joe Biden to the White House.”

Promise: “Income taxes will be cut dramatically for the workers — workers — that, I mean, the really hard workers. You’re paying too much tax, folks. Everybody knows it.” [Trump Campaign Speech, Toledo, OH, Sept. 21, 2016]

Reality: Donald Trump’s tax scam will raise taxes on more than 1.6 million Ohioans by 2027. Meanwhile, Trump handed massive tax giveaways to large corporations and the ultra-wealthy; by 2027, 82.8 percent of his tax scam’s benefits will go to the top 1 percent.
