Vote on Election Day
When are polls open?
Polls are open on Election Day from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
Where can I vote on Election Day?
If you’re planning to vote in person on Election Day, you can find your polling location at this link.
If your registration address is not up to date, you can still vote. Be sure to go to the polling location for your current address to vote.
What do I need to bring with me on Election Day?
You’ll need to bring identification with you on Election Day. Many forms of ID are acceptable, including an Ohio driver’s license with an old address on it. The forms of identification that you may use to vote on Election Day include:
- An unexpired ID issued by Ohio or the U.S. government that includes your name, photograph, and address (current or former address)
- Military ID
- A current copy (within the last 12 months) of any of the following containing your name and current address:
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government check
- Paycheck
- Other government document (other than a notice of voter registration mailed by a board of elections)
College students can use any of the above or a document from their school with a campus residence address on it.
Can I still vote on Election Day if I already signed up to vote by mail?
Yes. You can go to your polling location on Election Day to vote in person even if you requested a mail-in ballot. You can bring your unused ballot with you to your polling location, but it is not required and cannot be counted as your vote. After you check-in, you will be given a provisional ballot. Be sure to fill out the provisional ballot envelope carefully and completely to ensure your ballot gets counted.
What if I arrive at my polling place and am told I am not on the list to vote there. What should I do?
First, make sure you are at the correct polling location. Election Day staff should help determine your voter registration status and the location of your polling place. Perhaps there was a polling location change, and you need to vote at a different location nearby. Staff will direct you where to go in that instance. Perhaps you moved within Ohio or changed your name and forgot to update your information before the voter registration deadline. You should be able to update this information at your correct polling location and cast either a regular or provisional ballot on Election Day. No matter what, ask questions. Election staff should help solve the problem.
What if I make a mistake on my ballot or the voting machine malfunctions?
If you make a mistake, ask for a new ballot right away. You have the right to a new ballot if you catch the mistake before your ballot is inserted into the tabulator machine and counted.
If the tabulator machine rejects your ballot, ask for a new one. You have the right to start over.
What if my polling place is not accessible?
You have the right to an accessible polling place and an accessible voting machine. If your voting location is inaccessible, you have the right to request curbside voting. The poll workers at your polling place will bring a ballot outside so you can vote.
