COLUMBUS, OHIO – Today, Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern released the following statement on Sen. Rob Portman’s vote against the bipartisan farm bill, which passed thanks to the leadership of Sen. Sherrod Brown:
“By voting against the farm bill with hundreds of thousands of Ohio jobs hanging in the balance, Rob Portman is again peddling the same destructive policies he’s best known for as the architect of the Bush economy and making it clear he’s more interested in endearing himself to the fringes of the Republican Party than protecting and investing in Ohio’s number one industry. The farm bill, which passed thanks to Sherrod Brown’s leadership, saves taxpayers $23 billion while creating jobs, boosting rural development and growing our economy. Rob Portman’s vote against the farm bill is an insult to the hundreds of thousands of Ohio farmers, ranchers and small business owners who fought tirelessly alongside Sherrod to pass this bill and who expect for Portman to put Ohioans before his national political ambitions.”
