Mandel Playing Hooky (Again) To Throw Campaign Fundraisers With Sen. Minority Leader McConnell, Sen. Ayotte
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Today, Josh “Not A D.C. Politician” Mandel is hard at work hardly working, and instead enjoying his favorite pastime: blowing off work to raise campaign cash from Washington D.C. party bosses.
It’s not the first time Mandel has played hooky to throw swanky campaign fundraisers, all while Sen. Sherrod Brown is hard at work, The Columbus Dispatch writes:
“Last Monday, Republican Senate candidate Josh Mandel flew to Washington for a series of fundraisers. The same week, his Democratic opponent, Sen. Sherrod Brown, was helping guide the farm bill through the Senate.”
That’s right, while Sen. Brown was steering the bipartisan farm bill through the Senate, Josh Mandel was throwing five campaign fundraisers in Washington D.C., including one with – wait for it – “Thirty GOP Senators.”
For someone who won’t “pretend” he’s a “D.C. politician,” Josh Mandel sure loves raising money with Republican Party bosses in Washington, eh? All while ignoring his job.
“While claiming he won’t pretend he’s a D.C. politician, Josh Mandel is more than happy to blow off his responsibilities to Ohio taxpayers to raise campaign cash with Washington D.C. party bosses from whom he’d take his orders if he ever made it to the U.S. Senate,” said Ohio Democratic Party spokesman Andrew Zucker. “Ohioans didn’t elect a part-time treasurer and Josh Mandel’s refusal to do his job when it conflicts with his all-consuming fundraising schedule is further proof he’s a politician who can’t be trusted and whose only concern is the next rung up the ladder.”

BACKGROUND
Mandel: “I’m Not Going To Pretend Like I’m A D.C. Politician. In March 2012, The Findlay Courier reported “Mandel’s criticism of regulations helped him earn the endorsement of Tea Party Express. Tea Party Express opposes federal bailouts. But Mandel dodged when asked his view of the auto industry bailout, which arguably saved thousands of Ohio jobs. ‘I wasn’t in the United States Senate then or the United States Congress … The campaign we’re running right now is forward looking, so I’m not going to pretend like I’m a D.C. politician,’ he said. ‘We’ll leave that to people like Sherrod Brown.’ Mandel last week was quoted in the Youngstown Vindicator as saying he ‘respectfully disagreed’ that the federal bailout saved the auto industry.” [Findlay Courier, 03/21/12]
