Grant Increment to Continue Providing Temporary Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Labor announced a $5 million National Emergency Grant increment to continue providing temporary jobs for eligible dislocated workers. The new federal resources will help support nearly 700 Ohio workers continue clean-up efforts following severe weather throughout southeast Ohio. The grant will assist with cleanup and recovery efforts following severe storms and floods in April and May 2011 that affected southeastern Ohio.
In July 2011, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the counties were eligible for additional federal resources because of flash flooding and severe storms in April and May 2011. Brown led the Ohio Congressional Delegation in a letter to President Obama in support of Governor Kasich’s request for a disaster declaration for southern Ohio counties.
“Last spring’s severe storms left many Ohio families and small businesses hurting,” Brown said. “This funding will help small businesses, families, and communities throughout southeast Ohio while putting Ohioans to work.”
