Another poll shows Kasich unpopular in Ohio

On Wednesday, Quinnipiac University joined Public Policy Polling and the Ohio Poll in showing Governor Kasich and his policies are unpopular in Ohio.

Only 30% of Ohioans approve of John Kasich's job performance, including only 25% of independent voters.

The bad news doesn't stop there for the new governor. 53 percent of Ohioans say that Kasich's budget is unfair to them; only 36 percent say that it is fair. 46 percent of Ohioans oppose Kasich's plan to sell five state prisons.

When asked if they support or oppose limiting collective bargaining rights for public employees, Ohio voters soundly favor the rights of working families: 54% oppose limiting collective bargaining rights; only 35% favor limiting these rights.

The Affordable Care Act: One Year Later

In just one year, millions of Americans have already begun to feel the positive effects of the Affordable Care Act.

With unprecedented patient protections and benefits, families no longer need to worry that their children could be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition or that they could be denied critical care after hitting a lifetime limit. Seniors are now eligible for free preventive care and wellness visits with their doctor, and they are paying less out of pocket for their prescription drugs.

Throughout the health care debate, OFA supporters were vocal and active in their support for health insurance reform. We are proud of the work we did to help make the Affordable Care Act law, and we will continue to stand and fight with President Obama to protect the law from Republicans’ partisan and political attempts to defund and repeal it.

OFA supporters played an instrumental role in helping pass the Affordable Care Act. In the last ten days before Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, OFA volunteers made nearly 500,000 calls and sent 324,000 letters to Congress, and they held nearly 1,200 health care-related events with more than 10,000 attendees.

Sen. Brown holds big leads against potential GOP challengers

Today, PPP released their polling on Senator Sherrod Brown. Ohioans give Sen. Brown a net approval of +10 percentage points and he leads all perspective Republicans by large margins.

In potential match ups with six Ohio Republicans, Sen. Brown led by between 15-19 percent. Notably, Brown holds wide leads among Independents regardless of who he is matched against. Among Independents, Sen. Brown leads Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel by 20 points and leads Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor by 19 points.

Two new polls confirm rough start for Governor Kasich

Two new polls show that just two months into his term, Governor Kasich and his legislative agenda have become extremely unpopular in Ohio.

On Monday, the Ohio Poll revealed that 47% of Ohioans disapprove of the job that Governor Kasich is doing; only 40% approve. Likewise, only 38% of Ohioans approve of John Kasich's handling of the economy. This morning, a second poll by Public Policy Polling painted an even more dramatic drop in support for John Kasich. PPP found that only 35% of Ohioans support the Governor, whereas 54% disapprove of Kasich's job performance.

Today's numbers from PPP shed some light on his plummeting popularity with Ohioans: Governor Kasich's job-killing effort to curb the rights of Ohio's working families is opposed by a strong majority of Ohioans. If Senate Bill 5 were placed on the ballot, 54% of Ohioans would vote to restore collective bargaining rights to public employees; only 31% of voters would support SB 5.

John Kasich's agenda has become so unpopular in Ohio that when asked if they could redo the November 2010 election, voters chose Ted Strickland over Kasich in a landslide: 55-40.

The fight goes on

By a single vote, the Republicans in the Ohio Senate approved a bill that will weaken the middle class, kill jobs and destroy communities.

Yesterday was a sad day for Ohio, but today our fight goes on.

In the past three weeks, we have seen energy from the grassroots of our Party like never before. Our friends in labor out-messaged, out-organized and outworked the Tea Party protesters. Thousands upon thousands of you rallied at the Statehouse, wrote letters to the editor, made phone calls and gave small dollar donations for the first time.

These efforts have been nothing short of remarkable, and we can’t let up now. Because of your hard work, six Republicans broke ranks and sided with all ten Democrats in voting against the bill. We came closer to defeating this bill than any of the pundits thought possible. And we sent a loud and clear message to the Republicans that the people of Ohio do not support their reckless agenda. While we fell one vote short of killing Senate Bill 5, the battle is far from over.

Should John Kasich sign this awful legislation it into law, the Ohio Democratic Party will work with our friends in labor to wage a referendum campaign. That effort will require the collection of more than 230,000 signatures and a major statewide campaign in which millions of dollars will be spent. And we will work to defeat all Republicans who turned their backs on Ohio’s police, firefighters, teachers and other public servants.

Rally at the Statehouse, Tuesday March 1

Despite overwhelming public opposition, Senate Republicans are continuing their assault on Ohio’s middle class. Tomorrow (Tuesday), the State Senate is expected to hold a committee vote on Senate Bill 5. We need to flood the Statehouse and tell Senate Republicans to vote NO. We want to invite you to join thousands of like-minded Ohioans at the “Rally for Ohio’s Middle Class” tomorrow at the Statehouse.

Here are the details for the rally:

Rally for Ohio’s Middle Class
Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m.
Ohio Statehouse – West Lawn
1 Capitol Square
Columbus, OH 43215

John Kasich won the last election in a wave year with less than a majority of the vote. Now, he’s acting like he can ignore the will of the people of Ohio. In a fundraising email, he even mocked Ohioans who are standing up for our middle class, and his Administration locked thousands of Ohioans out of the People’s House last week. The actions of the Republicans are outrageous – and we can’t sit idly by when so much is at stake.

Tomorrow, we need to make sure that Kasich and Senate Republicans hear our voices more loudly and passionately than ever before. Will you join the thousands of Ohioans who will rally against Senate Bill 5?

Our advocacy has made a huge impact already. Republican Senators are feeling the heat. Polls show that more than 60 percent of Americans are on our side. And your presence at the Statehouse will send a clear message to Republican Senators: Stop the assault on Ohio’s middle class!

Please click here to let us know you’re coming, and join us at Statehouse tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.

Bus rides to the Statehouse are available on a first-come, first-serve basis across Ohio. They will depart from: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Marietta, Middletown, Toledo and Youngstown. Thank You

Dear Supporter,

Thank you.

We can’t say it enough. Thank you for your efforts in the past two weeks.

We asked you to come to the Statehouse – and you came. We asked you to write letters to the editor – and you wrote them. We asked you to donate to our efforts – and you donated.

Thousands upon thousands of you made the trip to Columbus to stand up for Ohio’s middle class. You made your voices heard loudly and clearly.

John Kasich, Scott Walker and other Republicans never saw this coming. They thought you would just sit on your hands and throw in the towel while they pushed through their anti-middle class agenda. They thought that just because they won the election, they had a green light to do whatever they wanted. They were wrong.

Together, we have made huge strides in our efforts to defeat Senate Bill 5 and other Republican efforts to weaken the middle class.

And we’re just getting started.

We’re not asking for money this time. In fact, we’re not asking you for anything. We’re just saying thank you.

Sincerely,

Chris Redfern and Your Friends at the Ohio Democratic Party

Governor Strickland: Now is the time

Now is the time. If ever there was a time to show up, stand up and let our voices be heard, it is now. The fate of Ohio’s middle class is on the line at the Ohio Statehouse.

This coming Tuesday, February 22, the legislature is scheduled to move on Senate Bill 5, a bill that would strip away collective bargaining rights, hurt the middle class, kill jobs and destroy communities. I want to invite you to come to the Statehouse in Columbus on Tuesday to voice your opposition to this bill. Please click here and let us know that you can attend.

So far, thousands and thousands of Ohioans just like you have crowded the Statehouse because the livelihoods of Ohio’s families are on the line. I was so inspired by these crowds that I decided to join them this past Thursday. There’s just too much at stake to let Governor Kasich and the legislature roll back the clock on progress for Ohio’s middle class.

The men and women who are under attack in our Statehouse are not enemies of the state; they are servants of the people. We must all stand together because this fight isn’t just about police, firefighters, teachers and other public employees. It’s about all of us. It’s about whether or not we will be a state that stands up for the middle class. It’s about stopping the dangerous agenda of those who would deprive regular Ohioans of the opportunity to provide a good life for their families.

Please sign up here and come to the Ohio Statehouse (1 Capitol Square, Columbus Ohio 43215) this coming Tuesday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. Your presence will send a strong message and help our efforts to defeat Senate Bill 5 and the rest of our opponents’ anti-middle class agenda.

We are witnessing history in the Buckeye State. Never in my life have I seen so many Ohioans standing up for their rights and making our government listen to the people it serves. Will you join thousands of like-minded Ohioans at the Statehouse on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. and make your voice heard?

I know that not everyone can make it to the Ohio Statehouse on Tuesday. But everyone can play an important role in helping defeat Senate Bill 5. To find out what YOU can do, simply click here to ask how you can help.
